Charlotte-based developer, Space Craft, has proposed an ambitious mixed-use community called “Brickworks” in Durham. The company has filed for rezoning to introduce a blend of residential and retail spaces.
Unique Vision for a Prime Location
Harrison Tucker, CEO of Space Craft, emphasized the unique appeal of the 95-acre site located off Angier Avenue. Positioned between the Durham Freeway and Interstate 885, the site holds substantial potential amid Durham’s ongoing growth.
Strategic Accessibility and Community Appeal
Tucker highlighted the convenience of the location, mentioning its easy access to Golden Belt, Elizabeth Street Retail, and downtown Durham. Furthermore, because of its proximity to Research Triangle Park (RTP), job opportunities will make it an even more appealing prospect for a mixed-use community. This area will be a great place to stroll, shop, eat, and spend the day.
Preserving Nature Amidst Development
Despite the lack of specific design details, Tucker conveyed the company’s enthusiasm for preserving the natural environment. Plans include incorporating nature trails and preserving mature trees, aiming for an eco-friendly village ambiance.
Commitment to Durham’s Heritage and Affordability
SpaceCraft intends to honor Durham’s history. This includes our beautiful architectural elements and partnerships they will form with local businesses. Count me in for supporting local businesses! Additionally, Tucker stressed the dedication of affordability, he will be aiming to establish an inclusive neighborhood accessible to all residents.
Building a Vibrant and Accessible Neighborhood
With an eye on sustainability, Tucker outlined the project’s timeline. The goal is to commence the first phase within 18 months and complete the community plan within five years. The ultimate goal is to develop a walkable neighborhood that aligns with Durham’s rapid growth.
Turning Vision into Reality
Tucker expressed enthusiasm for the project’s realization, emphasizing the endeavor’s alignment with Space Craft’s mission to create livable and thriving urban spaces in burgeoning cities like Durham.
