Durham City Council recently approved two significant developments set to transform the city’s housing landscape. Mill Creek Residential and Trinsic Residential have received approvals to embark on ambitious projects that could introduce over 700 new residential units to the area.
Mill Creek’s Olive Branch Reserve North
In East Durham, Mill Creek Residential secured approval for a rezoning initiative that paves the way for a vibrant townhome and duplex community known as Olive Branch Reserve North. Despite initial reservations, the council voted 4-2 in favor of the project’s rezoning, signaling a significant step forward in Durham’s housing expansion efforts.
Under the new zoning, Olive Branch Reserve North will accommodate up to 280 townhomes and duplexes, catering to a diverse range of residents. Notably, Mill Creek Residential plans to include 17 affordable units within the development, ensuring accessibility for individuals with varying income levels.
While concerns regarding environmental impact and infrastructural readiness were raised, Mill Creek Residential has committed to implementing measures to address these issues responsibly. Additionally, the development will feature enhanced road infrastructure and green spaces, enriching the surrounding community.
Trinsic’s Aura Green Hill
Further bolstering Durham’s housing inventory is Trinsic Residential’s Aura Green Hill development. Situated near Hillandale Golf Course, this multifamily project is set to offer 398 apartments and 42 townhomes, contributing to the city’s growing housing options.
With a focus on inclusivity, Aura Green Hill will allocate nearly 40 units for individuals across different income brackets, fostering a vibrant and diverse residential community. The project received unanimous approval from the council, underscoring its potential to enhance Durham’s urban landscape.
